The rapid growth of urban populations and private vehicle ownership has led to increased traffic congestion and environmental issues. Shared micromobility services, including bike-sharing and electric moped-sharing systems, have emerged as a viable solution to these issues by providing sustainable and flexible transportation options. However, these systems face operational challenges, including spatial and temporal imbalances in supply and demand, as well as insufficient infrastructure placement. This talk aims to address these issues through a comprehensive exploration of shared micromobility usage and the development of innovative spatial optimization models.

This talk focuses on two key areas: (1) investigating spatiotemporal usage patterns and assessing the influence of built environments on shared micromobility adoption, and (2) developing spatial optimization models to strategically locate shared micromobility infrastructure based on origin-destination flow dynamics. To achieve these objectives, this study utilizes data from the YouBike bike-sharing system and the WeMo electric moped-sharing service in Taipei, Taiwan. By integrating spatial variations and dual-node demand dynamics, this research aims to enhance the operational efficiency and accessibility of shared micromobility systems. The findings challenge conventional understandings of shared micromobility, offering new perspectives on its usage and infrastructure needs. These insights can help urban planners and policymakers develop more equitable and efficient transportation networks, ultimately contributing to more sustainable urban mobility solutions.
