Friday, January 05, 2018, 14:00 - 16:00
Location Room 202, the Geography Department Building, NTU
講者: Kin Wing (Ray) Chan
演講大綱:

This paper examines the governmentality of the colonial government of Hong Kong between 1970s and 1990s, focusing on how it implemented Livestock Waste Control Scheme (1973-1997), produced normative waste treatment knowledge, and the spatial control of farming practices as technologies to fix the water pollution problem and produced the subjectivity of environmentally-friendly farmers. By analysing the archival materials, and conducted in-depth interviews with two pig farmers’ representatives and 19
pig farmers. This paper argues that the colonial government of Hong Kong mainly deployed legal tools, ex-gratia grants, environmental knowledge, and livestock waste demonstration project as the major technologies to produce environmentally friendly pig farmers. This paper shows how the concept of environmentally friendly contributes to the creation of good farming subjectivities in order to modernise pig farmers’ waste management practices.
