Dr. Sun is a professor at Geography Department, National Taiwan University and President of Taiwan Geographic Information Society (2005-2006). Dr. Sun received his undergraduate education at National Taiwan University (1977) and his Ph.D. degree in geography from the University of Georgia, USA (1986). He served as director of the Global Change Research Center, National Taiwan University from 1998 to 2004 and the executive secretary of the Commission on Sustainable Development Research, National Science Council from March, 1998 to June, 2000. Prior to that, Dr. Sun also served as chairman of the geography department, National Taiwan University from August 1994 until July 1997. His research specialties are in geographic information systems, decision support systems, hazards mitigation, and sustainable development. His recent researches are concentrated in developing spatial decision support systems for natural hazards mitigation and for sustainable development issues. Dr. Sun is the project leader for the design of the National Geographic Information System.
