演講大綱:

In 2018, peace has seemingly come to the Korean peninsula. It is a drastic change, considering the past few years that North Korea has repeatedly attempted nuclear and missile tests and the international society strengthened economic sanctions. The second Summit talks between President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Eun will be held on February 26 to 27, 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The key agenda of the Summit is the details, order, and procedures of North Korea's denuclearization and the rewards of security guarantee and economic aids/investment. If such exchange is smoothly proceeded, North Korea will move toward further marketization, economic reform, and opening up. This research attempts to predict the future economic and political geography of the Korean Peninsula under such premise. According to the Korean Peninsula's New Economy Map suggested by the Moon Jae-in adminstration, there are the three major belts as the axes of inter-Korean economic cooperation. Whether or not intended, it misses the existence of the North Korea-China borderlands. The cross-border trade increased sharply in the 2000s even though the recent sanctions has reduced somewhat significantly. The three major North Korea's economic exchanges with China are outward processing in the clothing industry, mineral imports and exports, and overseas workers. In fact, they have been the source of North Korea's foreign currency and also the main targets of the international sanctions for the same reason. This research shows geoeconomics and geopolitics of the North Korea-China trades with a case study of Dandong(丹東), which is their major gateway city.
