我是威斯康辛大學麥迪遜校區地理學博士，主修人文地理學，副修文化人類學，西南中國的茶產業是我博士論文主要的研究課題。我從雲南「古茶林」出發，除了藉由生態組成、市場經濟、與國家力量來瞭解古茶林地景的轉變外，我也以民族誌研究來理解少數民族如何從日常生活的茶葉生產，重新建構他們跟古茶林的關係。作為一個人文地理學家，我主要關注自然－社會的關係；更具體地說，我以農業與食品的生產消費為觀看視角，來檢視人、地方、與環境的動態關聯。目前主要的研究區域在台灣、中國與東南亞。

西南中國的茶產業是我目前主要的研究課題；我以茶葉生產、土地利用政治、與少數民族的關係，來探討中國西南邊疆人與自然關係的變遷。我從雲南「古茶林」（亦稱「古茶園」）的地景轉變切入，試圖理解茶樹、茶商、國家、與少數民族（布朗族為主）之間的互動，進而分析西南中國的土地利用政治與變動中的人－地關係。除了從生態組成、市場經濟、與國家力量來瞭解古茶林地景的轉變外，我也以民族誌研究來理解少數民族如何從日常生活的茶葉生產，重新建構他們跟古茶林的關係。

從目前的茶葉課題延伸，未來我將繼續把就焦點放在雲南與東南亞邊境上生計農業與經濟作物種植的關係；同時，我也將探索近來興起的食品安全議題與有機食品消費，如何牽動中國農業生產的環境治理，而這些又如何改變農村的自然環境、社會結構、與城鄉連結。另外，我也把研究視角拉回台灣的農業變遷，試圖從農業來檢視台灣與區域和全球的連結，並從中討論台灣自然－社會的關係轉變。
